Single Fin Showdown raises $5,000 for United Way

Surfers and beachgoers came to Stuart Beach in droves on March 19 for the 3rd Annual Single Fin Showdown to benefit United Way of Martin County.

Presented by Ohana Surf Shop and Martin County Parks & Recreation Department, the Showdown went off without a hitch despite the small, knee- to waist-high surf and raised an impressive $5,000 for United Way’s 2010-11 campaign.

“We are truly blessed to live in a community that comes together for great causes like the United Way,” said Jordan Schwartz, owner of Ohana Surf Shop. “We promise to make the Single Fin Showdown bigger and better every year.”

The unique surf contest allows surfers of all ages the opportunity to step back into time by competing against each other on an authentic 1970s single fin surfboard provided to them at random while at the same time educating them on the needs in Martin County.
