CHARACTER COUNTS!

Champions of the Community Awards

Each year, the United Way of Martin County hosts a Champions of the Community event to wrap up the campaign season. The event is designed to honor volunteers and donors who have made an impact on improving lives in Martin County.

Each United Way department bestows honors upon its key volunteers and/or donors. Here are the CHARACTER COUNTS honorees for 2004-05, presented at an event on April 7, 2005:

  • Dr. Sara Wilcox, superintendent of Martin County Schools, for being a founding member and remaining an involved and steadfast supporter for 10 years.

  • Mary LaFauve, who started a generous and committed relationship with CHARACTER COUNTS! two years ago when her daughter interned for a semester with CHARACTER COUNTS!

  • Phyllis Kordick, for continuing to be a champion for CHARACTER COUNTS! after the death of her husband, Joe Kordick, who founded the Youth Character Awards.
