The second annual “Tee It Up for Character” tournament drew 112 generous golfers to Monarch Country Club on April 22,
2004, making for a fun and successful fund-raiser for CHARACTER COUNTS!, a program of the United Way of Martin County.
Thanks to all the participants and sponsors, the event raised $18,000 in support of the program.
Among the golf highlights:
-
Sandie St. Onge (pictured), two-time club champion at Yacht & Country Club and salesperson for Adelphia Media Services, volunteered her time and golfing skills for the event in a “closest to the pin” challenge. The raffle winner of “The Challenge” was Tony Alan, who won a new Ping putter and a golf foursome donated by Mariner Sands.
-
Low gross winners were the Yacht & Country Club team of Roger
Loeffelbein, Rick Wentworth, Bob Jackson and Jeff Dando with a 59.
Following a buffet dinner, golfers competed again at the auction table – vying for tempting golf packages at The Medalist and Loblolly, weekend getaways at Pirates Cove Resort and Holiday Inn Oceanside, as well as fishing trips, massages, days of beauty, and even a weekend getaway for the family pet!
“Sponsor involvement was the key ingredient,” said Duane Raab, chairman of CHARACTER
COUNTS! “The generosity of Monarch, Carl’s Suburban, Kohl & Richard, Ampersand, The Kordick Family, Bobbie Trimble, First National Bank, Hometown News, Publix Super Markets Charities, Clark Weimer, Lively Orthodontics, The Stuart News, and local businesses and supporters who donated auction items and bought tee signs, allowed us to offer the players a first-class golfing
experience."

The inaugural golf tournament to benefit CHARACTER COUNTS! was deemed a
success by chairman Duane Raab. Twenty-three foursomes enjoyed a day
of lunch, golf and barbecue on April 25, 2003. More than $8,000 of the
funds raised went directly to CC! initiatives.

Maliszewski came in first low gross (pictured above). The team of Bruce
Snyder, Steve Snyder, Ernie Fricione and Rebecca Donaho came in first
