Thirty-three students earned Student of the Week honors this school year
United Way of Martin County's CHARACTER COUNTS program recognizes students each week during the school year for exemplifying good character through its Student of the Week initiative.
Thanks to support from Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers, The Lyric Theatre and the Law Firm of Kramer, Sopko and Levenstein, CHARACTER COUNTS! was able to recognize 33 students with a Student of the Week certificate, CHARACTER COUNTS! bracelet, recognition in The Stuart News and four tickets to attend a performance at the Lyric Theatre.
Each student was selected by their teachers for demonstrating one or more of the Six Pillars of Character – Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.

10th Annual Tee it Up for CHARACTER raises $19,000 for CHARACTER COUNTS!
Golfers supporting CHARACTER COUNTS! in Martin County enjoyed an exciting afternoon of golf during the tenth annual Tee It Up for Character Charity Golf Tournament on May 3 in Palm City.
The tournament, the sole fund-raiser CHARACTER COUNTS!, took place at Monarch Country Club and was deemed a huge success by netting more than $19,000 thanks to golf committee members Wendie Berardi, Lester Bird, Phyllis Kordick, Barbara Sundblad, Jim Vojscik and Sue Whittington.
Thanks to support from golf tourney sponsors, auction bidders, players, special contributors and volunteers, CHARACTER COUNTS! can continue providing character education activities and resources in the schools and throughout the community.
"CHARACTER COUNTS! encourages good sportsmanship and increases public awareness of the importance of core ethical values," said Holly Laiben, director of CHARACTER COUNTS!. "This golf fund-raiser will help to ensure these activities continue."
