The Legacy Society: Gordon Miller

The Legacy Society recognizes and honors people who have made contributions to the United Way of Martin County Foundation

Gordon Miller lived life to its fullest, and before he passed away in 2001 at the age of 79, this generous man named United Way as one of the beneficiaries of his will.

"Gordon loved Christmas," his former caregiver said. He had no children and through the years took great joy in supporting Toys for Tots. When he retired to Stuart, he became a generous supporter of United Way’s White Doves Holiday Project and through his will designated a final gift to White Doves.

In the early years of his career he lived in Washington, D.C., and worked for the government as an auditor. He became a successful real estate investor and worked several years in Fort Lauderdale. Gordon and his wife loved to travel, and he continued his journeys even after her death. In his later years, when his eyesight began to fail, he and his caregiver spent many a day touring the Treasure Coast.

Miller gave to several charities throughout his lifetime and made provisions for them in his will. Because of his final gifts, people with sight impairments have received guide dogs and audio books, and needy families and children in Martin County have received food and toys for the holidays.
