Volunteers from area businesses and
agencies will help United Way of Martin County hold a
“Thank-a-Thon” on March 14.
The Thank-a-Thon’s is designed to reach
out to past years’ donors to thank them for their support
and remind them of the continuing needs in the community.
The event is part of United Way’s
effort to close the remaining gap toward its 2006-07
campaign. As of Feb. 20, United Way of Martin County stands
at about $375,000 short of its goal of $2.2 million.
The Thank-a-Thon will be held 1 p.m. to
4 p.m. March 14 in the phone bank at the Supervisor of
Elections Office, 135 SE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.,
Stuart. Use of the phone back is thanks to Vicki Davis, who
is the Elections Supervisor as well as a United Way board
member.
The unofficial “finish line” of the
campaign will be United Way’s annual Champions of the
Community event on March 22 at the Hutchinson Island
Marriott. The dinner event features awards for the year’s
key donors and volunteers as well as the announcement of the
fund-raising campaign total.
Although fund-raising continues
through the end of June, the March 22 date is
critical because during April and May, volunteers will be
reviewing agencies’ requests for United Way funding for
2007-08. The volunteers will need to know that there is
enough money available to meet needs.
