United Way of Martin County invests in local programs that reduce the percentage of Martin County population that is food insecure.
Why does it matter? Reducing hunger across our community increases the health of this target population; children who do not go to school hungry are better students and thus, potentially better educated and more employable. Hunger is a key and costly link to the future success of the entire community.
The following programs are funded under United Way's Hunger priority area:
House of Hope
Provides food to at-risk individuals and families living in Martin County.
Food and Nutrition Outreach
Treasure Coast Food Bank
Distributes bulk food and personal items to nonprofit agencies in Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie Counties and to individual households.
